After update of a system (from June 2000 CD) with the March 2001 or May 2001 CD, we can't login on accounts with passwords. Even after redefinition of the passwords by the passwd command id doesn't let me in. A complete reinstallation of the system works, but why did we have to do that?

| Solution |
With the May 2001 CD and Patch E update, a previous /bin/login was reinstalled. This uses the old crypt algorithm, which won't work if you updated the system previously with the security update. If you have a copy of the updated login utility handy you can replace the "old one" with your backup. Otherwise downloading the security patch again and decompressing it to a separate directory and extracting login, then copying it over the "old one" can also solve this problem.
Patch E can be obtained from the "All products CD, May 2001"
